Ideal Weight Calculator

Get your estimated ideal weight from three evidence-based medical formulas.

Height

How this calculator works

This calculator applies three peer-reviewed formulas to estimate ideal body weight based on height and sex. The Robinson formula uses a base of 52 kg for males (49 for females) at 5 feet, adding 1.9 kg (1.7 kg for females) per inch above that. Miller and Devine use different baselines and multipliers, reflecting different research populations from the 1970s–80s.

Limitations

These formulas were developed for clinical medication dosing, not fitness goals. They don't account for frame size, muscle mass, or ethnicity. Treat the results as a reference range rather than a rigid target.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which ideal weight formula is most accurate?
None of the formulas are definitively 'most accurate' — they were developed for different clinical populations. The Devine formula is most commonly used in medical settings (e.g. for medication dosing). Using the average of all three gives a reasonable range.
How does ideal weight differ from healthy BMI weight?
They often differ. The BMI healthy range (18.5–24.9) gives a weight range for a given height. The ideal weight formulas give a single target. For a 175cm male, the BMI healthy range is 57–76 kg, while the formulas typically suggest 68–72 kg.
Is ideal weight the same as goal weight?
No. Your goal weight depends on your individual body composition, training history, and health objectives. A muscular athlete may healthily exceed ideal weight predictions. Use these figures as a reference, not a prescription.
